Where do these numbers come from?

A survey of 12 hosting providers on 22 September 2026, reading published pricing pages across budget, mid-market and premium hosts. The typical figure is the median, and the range is the cheapest and dearest seen for that size. It is an unweighted average, so read it as a sense of the market rather than a quote.

Why is this higher than the price I was quoted?

Advertised prices are usually a first-month offer. Across the hosts sampled, the recurring rate runs about 25 per cent above the headline, and in some cases two to three times it. The figure here is what you pay from month two onward.

Can I pay less by committing for longer?

Yes, and about 20 per cent is the honest saving for paying annually. The catch is that you are paying up front for a year of a server your group may stop using in March.

Does the game change the price?

At most hosts, no. Six of the ten providers sampled charge the same for Valheim, Palworld, 7 Days to Die and Minecraft. Where it differs, Palworld runs 25 to 50 per cent above Valheim. The real outliers are ARK and Rust at two to five times.

What does self-hosting cost instead?

Nothing for the software, if you already have a PC that stays on. ServerSync runs the server on hardware you own. That removes the monthly bill and the renewal, and the machine is yours either way.
